The HEC Yeah! project came about because I wanted a PVR (Personal Video Recorder), but I did not want to pay the subscription fees required by commercial players like ReplayTV® or TiVo®. When I began to design my PVR, it quickly grew into a much more sophisticated device, capable of doing things the commercial PVRs probably will not be able to do for years, so I decided to call it a HEC (Home Entertainment Computer) instead. After all, my HEC can do a lot more than just record video. It can play DVDs, burn Video CDs, act as a jukebox, and much more.

This site is where I focus my ideas and experiences in designing and actually building my HEC. The unit is built around Linux running on a Celeron 900 MHz processor.

I've just received a VoodooTV 100 PCI card to replace my unsupported ATI card. I will be experimenting with this card over the next few days. At this point, my HEC can display on a television, and play DVDs and music. I will also be working on the remote control interface over the next few days.
